Weshparkar, or Veshparkar is the sogdian wind god, was an iranni syncreti deity between the Hindu Shiva and the Zoroastrian Vayu-Vata, was one of the three main objects of veneration in pre-Islamic Ustrushana.

Mythology[]

Etymology[]

Presumably the name Weshparkar be the sogdian adaptation of the Sanskrit word Vishvakarman, that whose meaning is "creator of everything".

Iconography[]

Weshparkar had the same iconography that Shiva, so was depicted as a four-armed and three-headed man seated on a horse.

Gnosticism[]

Boris Marshak theorized that Weshparkar also was adored by the manicheans, due to buddhist influence in Sogdian areas, besides many images of W were found in Manichean temples.
