Terra (or Tellus or Mother Earth) is the goddess of the earth in Roman mythology and religion.

Family[]
Equal with her Greek counterpart that she is the wife of Caelus (Uranus) and mother of the Titans, but in Hellenistic sources she is mentioned as the Mother of Janus.
Terra and Caelus in some versions are the parents of Mercury, Terra also was the grandmother of Jupiter, Ceres, Vesta and Juno, in Hellenistic sources she also has Pluto and Neptune as grandchildren.
Etymology[]
The name Terra has its origin on the Proto-Italic words *χem-ō-, *χe/om-on-m that comes from the Proto-Indo-European Goddess Dʰéǵʰōm.
