- This article is about the queen. For the city and people of Sparta, see Spartans.
Sparta (Doric Greek: Σπάρτα) was the daughter of King Eurotas of Laconia. She succeeded him as Queen of that land. She married Lacedaemon, the son of Zeus and Taygete, who renamed the capital city of their kingdom after her. Her daughter Eurydice, would later become Queen of Argos after marrying King Acrisius. Her daughter would be Danae, thus making Sparta great grandmother of Perseus. Her son, Amyclas, would succeed as King of Sparta.
