Sekhmet is the Egyptian goddess of war and destruction. She was also born from the fire of Ra's eyes. She married Ptah. The Egyptians built 700 monuments to worship her. She is the mother of Nefertum. She is sometimes considered an alternate form of Bastet, while othertimes being called her sister.
When Ra decided to terminate the unsatisfactory mankind, he called upon Sekhmet to destroy them. But, she went too far and developed an addiction to killing. She ruthlessly and gruesomely killed many people and wouldn't stop on Ra's commands. So, Ra decided to stop her by turning a river into Red Wine. Seeing this, Sekhmet thought it was blood, and driven by her bloodlust, began to drink the river. After a few moments, she was drunk and dozed off. At this occasion, Ra took the advantage to stop her after all of this. According to some myths, Ra kept Sekhmet in his possession, and according to others, Ra turned Sekhmet into Bastet. Either way, sources generally agree that Ra kept Sekhmet impotent until another battle occurred- one which was severe enough to require the assistance of the powerful warrior goddess.
