Romulus and Remus suckled by a wolf
Remus is the son of Rhea Silvia, daughter of King Numitor of Alba Longa , and Mars, the Roman God of war. Because his mother was a Vestal Virgin, she was supposed to be celibate. However, after she had children, her uncle Amulius (who had usurped her father's throne) had her buried alive. Romulus and Remus were raised by wolves and later avenged their mother by deposing Amulius and reinstating Numitor. Remus was killed by Romulus in a dispute over the name of a city they intended to co-found. The city later became Rome.
