Quibungo is a monster that chases and eats naughty children. He is a character in the African-Brazilian oral tradition and best known in the state of Bahia, where he became part of local folklore.

Legend[]

With the main function of disciplining through fear, Quibungo is equivalent to Velho do Saco, being a fearsome eater of the little boys, especially the disobedient and mischievous ones. The children he devours are instantly digested and he doesn't usually leave any traces of his victim behind. Within these traditional stories, he is described as being both man and beast, a species of humanoid wolf with black fur as the night that behaves like a hungry ghost.

He doesn't have much intelligence, being guided mainly by instincts. He is also vulnerable and can be killed easily if wounded by a gunshot, knife, wooden board, or virtually any other weapon.
