Pheme, is, in Greek mythology, the goddess of fame.
In Myth[]
Pheme was the Greek goddess of fame and renown, and was said to be the daughter of either Gaia or of Elpis (Hope). It said that her favor gave notability, and to earn her wrath resulted in scandalous rumors. Described as "she who initiates and furthers communication", she was a tremendous gossip who pried into the affairs of mortals and gods, then told everyone what she learned until everyone knew. In art, she is shown with wings and a trumpet.
Her Roman counterpart, Fama, was described by Virgil as having multiple tongues, eyes, ears, and feathers. She was said to live in a home with 1000 windows so she could hear everything around the world. According to Virgil, she "had her feet on the ground and her head in the clouds, making the small seem great and the great seem greater."
