Pasiphaë (Ancient Greek: Πασιφάη Pāsipháē) was the wife of Minos, the king of Crete. She was the daughter of the sun-god Helios and the Oceanid Perse, and with Minos mothered seven significant children: Catreus, Glaucus, Acacallis, Phaedra, Deucalion, Ariadne, and Androgeos.

Mythology[]

After Minos' selfishness in keeping the white bull he was supposed to sacrifice to Poseidon, as punishment, the sea god made Pasiphae fall madly in love with the bull. She had Daedalus the architect build a hollow wooden cow for her to use in order to fool the bull. The decoy worked, and from their unnatural love came the Minotaur.
