Mammon is a major demon found in demonology and occultism. Mammon started out as simply the abstract concept of money and wealth, but by the 14th century CE was personified into a demon.[1][2] In Christian demonology he is considered one of the Princes of the Seven Deadly Sins, representing the sin of Greed.

Etymology[]

The English term "mammon" is derived from the Late Latin "mammona," which in turn was derived from the ecclesiastical Greek "mamōnas," which was derived from the Aramaic term "mamona" meaning "gain."[2]
