Etty-Candaules King of Lydia Shews his Wife to Gyges

Gyges spies on Candaules and his wife

The Lydians were an Anatolian people group of Asia Minor who supported Troy in the Trojan War. The land and it's people were first called Maeonia after it's first ruler Manes, it came to be known as Lydia after Manes' grandson Lydus. Mount Sipylus and Mount Tmolos are important mountains in the region of Lydia.

Manes and his son Atys are said by some scholars as the same as Tmolos and his son Tantalus, although Strabo accounts however that they merely just ruled over the area of Lydia at the same time. The Atyids ruling over near Mt. Sipylus and the Tmolids ruling over near Mt. Tmolus.
