Kw-Uhnx-Wa is the Nuu-chah-nulth version of the Thunderbird from Pacific Northwest mythology, who beat his wings to make thunder and carried glowing snakes that shot lightning. Nuu-chah-nulth nythology is the historical oral history of the Nuu-chah-nulth, a group of indigenous peoples living on Vancouver Island in British Columbia.
