Khonsu, also known as Khons or Khensu, was the Egyptian god of the moon, Time, Youth and healing. He is the son of Amun and is also associated with Thoth and Iah. He can take the appearance of Iah.It is believed that at the beginning of times, Thoth was the god of the moon. But as time passed, he was more associated with knowledge and writing, so, Thoth gave his title to Khonsu. Despite being the god of the moon, Khonsu was also famous as being the guardian of travelers. Especially, Khonsu was regarded to protect the travelers at night from any potent dangers. In old myths, Khonsu was considered as an aggressive-natured deity, but in later records, he is shown having a very docile personality.

There have been a number of temples for worshipping Khonsu, but, the most famous one is the Temple of Khons at Karnak, Luxor, Egypt.
