Hymen is a god of marriage ceremonies, inspiring feasts and song. He is one of the winged love gods, the Erotes.
Function[]
Hymen must attend all weddings. If he didn't, then the marriage would supposedly be disastrous, so the Greeks would run around calling his name out loud. He presided over many of the weddings in Greek mythology, for all the deities and their children.
Legend[]
Hymen is most commonly the son of Apollo by one of the Muses, usually Clio or Calliope, but also Urania or Terpsichore. It is said that he once fell in love with the daughter of one of the richest women in Athens, but he could not approach her because of his low birth. As he couldn't talk to her or woo her, so naturally he followed her wherever she went.
