H₁n̥gʷnis presumably had a similar role that other indo-European deities like the Greek Hestia or Roman Vesta, being a home deity relationship with family and fire.

Gender[]

The gender of H₁n̥gʷnis is unclear, however some of its descendents are male like Agni and Atar, but others are female like Hestia and Vesta.

Deities descendants of H₁n̥gʷnis like Agni was identified by Alexander the Great as Hephaestus rather than Hestia, may be can this be evidence that in a point H₁n̥gʷnis and the Indo-European smith god could have been the same deity, but this is pure speculation.
