Forbidden Fruit is the name given to the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil that grew in the Garden of Eden. Adam and Eve ate it despite God commanding them otherwise, and were then exiled from Eden.

Mythology[]

The story in the Book of Genesis places Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden, where they could eat the fruit of many trees, except that of the tree of knowledge of good and evil, which God forbids them. In Genesis 3, the serpent tempted the woman, telling her, “For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.”

Desiring such knowledge, Eve ate the forbidden fruit and gave some of it to the man, who also ate it. They became aware of her nakedness and made clothes from fig leaves, and hid themselves when God approached. When confronted, Adam told God that Eve had given him the fruit to eat, and Eve told God that the serpent had tricked her into eating it. God then cursed the serpent, then the woman, and then the man, and drove the man and woman out of the Garden before they could eat the fruit of the Tree of Eternal Life.
