Melinoë is the Underworld goddess of ghosts and nightmares. While she is not present in any myths, it is said that she would travel to the upperworld with her train of ghosts to scare wandering mortals. She is the daughter of Persephone by Zeus, but is widely considered to be Hades child. She is often associated with Hecate and the Erinyes.

Birth[]

While some myths presents her as the child of Persephone and Hades, many stories show her as the child of Zeus and Persephone. Hades was out of his domain one day on business which meant that Persephone was all alone at home. Zeus saw this as his opportunity. He transformed himself to appear as Hades to her, and they then proceeded to sleep together. It was not until after the fact that Persephone realized who she truly was. When Hades found out he was furious, but since Zeus was the king of the gods there was nothing much that he could do. In many versions of this, Hades essentially accepts Melionë as his own daughter and raises her accordingly.

Apperence[]

Melionë is often described as having half black and white hair along with her body being black and white, much like the Norse goddess Hel. Her left side is black and tough, like a mummy's, while her right side is pale and clammy like a dead body.
