Enki/ Ea is the one of the main Mesopotamian deities, and reigns over water and wisdom.
Myths & Legends[]
Ea told the hero Gilgamesh to construct a boat for his family, his craftsmen, the "animals of the field", and for himself before flooding the world.
When his niece, Ishtar, is taken to the underworld, Ea sends a eunuch to make a bargan with Ereshkigal. He offers pure water for the exchange for his niece. His eunuch is cursed, though Ereshkigal does release Ishtar soon after, demanding a substitute instead.
His son Marduk defeated the goddess of chaos and salt water, Tiamat.

His consort is Ninhursag. His children include Marduk, Lahar, Ashnan, Ninsar and Ningal.
