Dyaus is a the Hindu god of the sky. He is married to Prithvi and is father of Parjanya, Ushas and Ratri by her. His name is related to the Greek Zeus and Roman Jupiter (Zeus Pater) and, by extension, Germanic Teiwaz (Norse Týr). He is also known as Dyaus Pitar (Father Sky).
In the Avesta[]
In Old Avestan, the word dyaoš originally meant "heaven". The later word diiaoš is not used for an individual being, instead it is another name for both daevas, and either hell or underworld.
