Cikap-kamuy (also called Kotan-kor-kamuy, which should not be confused with Kotan-kar-kamuy) is the Ainu kamuy (god) of owls and nature in Japanese mythology. He is responsible for overseeing the behavior of humans and kamuy. It is also said to be a god of prosperity in this world.

Depiction[]

Cikap-kamuy is portrayed as a great owl. The Ainu people believed that owls were watching over Moshi (country) and Kotan (village), and Cikap -kamui became a symbol of these chiefs. In some areas, Cikap-kamui's tears are said to be made of gold and silver.
