Capelobo is a character from Brazilian folklore, who has the appearance of a monster. His legend is very common, especially in the states of Maranhão, Amazonas and Pará. It is believed to have arisen among the indigenous peoples of the northern region of Brazil.
Legend[]
According to legend, his body is a mixture of human and animal. Thus, he has the head and snout of a giant anteater (or a dog or a tapir, depending on the version), strong human body, round legs (shaped like the bottom of a bottle) with lots of hair on his body. He is very fast and lives running through the forests near the rivers and in lowland regions.
Also according to the folkloric saying, Capelobo has an active life during the night and dawn, when he wanders around and surrounds sheds, houses and camps in the middle of the forest. Emitting frightening sounds, this monster feeds on dogs and cats, especially those that have just been born. He also attacks hunters, killing them and drinking the victims' blood, and in some versions, he pierces the victim's skull and feeds on their brain.
To kill this monstrous creature, it is necessary to take a good shot at his navel, which is the only effective way to eliminate him.
