"Báʿal", Baal", "'Bal" "Bael", "Beel" or "Bel" is a title and Semitic word which means "the Lord".
- The term is traditionally associated with the Canaanite storm and rain god Hadad, who is also associated with the Greek storm and rain god, Zeus (Jupiter), who is sometimes identified with the Berbero-Egyptian god Amun.
- Within the Hebrew bible Hadad was a rival deity to Yahweh, and became associated with Satan or other high-ranking demons within Abrahamic traditions.
- Another deity associated with the term is the Phoenician and North African god Baal Hammon (Phoenician: 𐤁𐤏𐤋 𐤇𐤌𐤍 baʿl ḥamūn). Greco-Roman sources report that the Carthaginians burned their children as offerings to Baʿal Hammon. He was also known as Baʿal Qarnaim ("Lord of Two Horns").
