In Greek mythology, Asia is an Oceanid, one of the three thousand daughters of Oceanus and Tethys, and is the wife of the Titan Iapetus, according to Apollodorus.

Family[]

Asia is the daughter of Oceanus and Tethys, but one source states that she is the daughter of a figure named Pompholyge and had a sister named Libya. Apollodorus states she is the wife of Iapetus, and with him she bore Atlas, Epimetheus, Menoetius, and Prometheus.

Mythology[]

In some sources, instead of Clymene, she is the wife of Iapetus. Asia may have been another name of Clymene. Legend says that the continent of Asia was named after the Oceanid.
