Arke or Arce was the daughter of Thaumas and Electra and the sister of Iris and the Harpies. She had iridescent wings compared to Iris' golden ones. During the Titanomachy, she served as the messenger of the Titans while Iris served the Olympians. After the Titans were defeated, Zeus cast her into Tartarus after stripping her of her wings, giving them to Peleus and Thetis on their wedding day. As a result, Peleus' son Achilles was sometimes referred to as "Podarces" ("swift-footed," from pous (genitive: podos) meaning foot, and Arke's name).
