Aramazd (Armenian: Արամազդ) was the chief and creator god in the Armenian version of Zoroastrianism. The deity and his name were derived from the deity Ahura Mazda after the Medians conquered Armenia in the 6th century BC.
History[]
Zoroastrian influences penetrated Armenian culture and religion during the Achaemenid Empire. This then made the Armenians worship the Iranian god Ahura Mazda which the Armenians named Aramazd.
Along with Ahura Mazda, Aramazd is probably mixed and conflated with the native Armenian gods Ara/Aram and Amanor/Vanatur. Later making them the epithets of Aramazd. In time, the positive functions of Baal Shamin were also absorbed by Aramazd.
Along with Anahit and Vahagn they formed a lead triad in the Armenian pantheon.
Mythology[]
Aramazd was regarded as a generous god of fertility, rain, and abundance, as well as the father of the other gods, including Anahit, Mihr, and Nane.
