Antã is the name given to a creature that looks like a giant, humanoid maned wolf. Its origin would supposedly be based on indigenous people from a tribe called Peló-Peló Ntãi, whose certain warriors could become these swords. The creature ''Antã'' is a brazilian variation likely originating from European influence from the legend of werewolves. It is a legend that comes from the influences of Guarani mirology.
Myths & Legends[]
The antã is described as appearing when a renowned warrior was recognized by the goddess Jaci. Which she presented to them as a transformation that would give them more strength than they could ever dream of receiving, so that they could go further in their battles. And they are presented with bows made from guaraná juice capable of exploding stars. Those blessed would be confined to wander the night seeking fulfillment of heroism and drafting servitude to the goddess of the night. There are variations that differ under the ability of indigenous people to return to human form. But they are generally regarded as honorable shapeshifting warriors, loyal to Jaci and her tribe.
As European influence intensifies, Antã becomes a creature of more questionable character. Starting to be described as a reclusive creature, which wanders under the savannahs at night, comparable to a spirit. In these more ''hostile'' versions, the antã is more of an incomprehensible monstrosity than simply an indigenous person blessed with powers. They can disappear and disappear whenever they want. From this perspective, Antã is seen as an evil spirit. That he would live half the time in the real world and half the time in the ethereal world. With its most hideous detail being its paralyzing gaze. This allows him to eat chickens and children without attracting the attention of adults. It is believed that if you kill an antan, its body parts if used can bring good luck, and provide cures against kidney disease or snake bites; but the main benefit would be his eyes, which could bring luck in completing a goal if looked through, or gaining his powers. Stories influenced by European tradition assume that Antãs are born through infectious bites or the consumption of some of these anomalies.
