Also known as Avnas, Amy is the 58th spirit of the Ars Goetia, one of the 72 spirits of Solomon. He is a supreme president of Hell and governs 36 legions of spirits. He first appears before a summoner in the form of raging flame, but eventually will take the shape of a man.

He was banished from this throne for one thousand two hundred years and hopes to, one day, resume his position on the Seventh Throne of Heaven. He teaches astrology and the liberal sciences, provides familiars and can guide one to a life of fortune and wealth.

He is said to be willing to trade knowledge for the soul of a human. Amy can locate treasure or sacred objects that are hidden and kept by spirits, however he is wary; in the knowledge of the might of the wrath of an unclaimed spirit.

Amy in the Pseudomonarchia Daemonum[]

The Pseudomonarchia daemonum, or False Monarchy of Demons, by the Dutch occultist Johann Weyer, was published as an appendix to his book titled De praestigiis daemonum, or On the Tricks of Demons, in 1577. The description of Amy from the Pseudomonarchia daemonum is as follows:

Amy is a great president, and appeareth in a flame of fier, but having taken mans shape, he maketh one marvelous in astrologie, and in all the liberall sciences, he procureth excellent familiars, he bewraieth treasures preserved by spirits, he hath the governement of thirtie six legions, he is partlie of the order of angels, partlie of potestats, he hopeth after a thousand two hundreth yeares to returne to the seventh throne: which is not credible.[1]

Amy in the Lemegeton Clavicula Salomonis (Ars Goetia)[]

The Lemegeton Clavicula Salomonis or Lesser Key of Solomon is an anonymously written book of demonology that is believed to have been complied sometime during the 17th century CE. The work is divided into five books, the first of which, known as the Ars Goetia, lists 72 demons. The Ars Goetia is heavily based off of Johann Weyer's Pseudomonarchia daemonum.

In 1904, the British occultist and founder of the religion of Thelema, Aleister Crowley, published a version of the Lesser Key of Solomon which was translated by another British occultist, Samuel Liddell MacGregor Mathers, and contained additional invocations added by Crowley. The Ars Goetia's passage on Amy from the 1904 version is as follows:

AMY, or AVNAS. - The Fifty-eighth Spirit is Amy, or Avnas. He is a Great President, and appeareth at first in the Form of a Flaming Fire; but after a while he putteth on the Shape of a Man. His office is to make one Wonderful Knowing25 in Astrology and all the Liberal Sciences. He giveth Good Familiars, and can bewray Treasure that is kept by Spirits. He governeth 36 Legions of Spirits, and his Seal is this, etc.[2]

Amy in the Dictionnaire Infernal[]

The Infernal Dictionary is a book of demonology written in 1818 by the French occultist Jacques Auguste Simon Collin de Plancy. The entry for Amy is as follows:

Amy, great president of hell, and one of the princes of the infernal monarchy. He appears there surrounded by flames but on earth he affects human features. He teaches the secrets of astrology and the liberal arts; he gives good servants; he reveals to his friends the treasures guarded by demons; he is prefect of thirty-six legions. Fallen angels and powers are under his command. He hopes that after two hundred thousand years he will return to heaven to occupy the seventh throne; which is not credible, says Wierus.[3]
