The Aegis or Ægis was the shield or breastplate, supposedly originally worn by Zeus and then by Athena.

Creation[]

The Aegis was forged by Hephaestus and his assistants; the Cyclopes. Later Perseus gifted the head of the gorgon Medusa to Athena, who placed it on the shield.

Design[]

The shield is said to be made of gold and has a carving of Medusa's head in it's center.
