The Aegis or Ægis was the shield or breastplate, supposedly originally worn by Zeus and then by Athena.
Overview[]
Creation[]
The Aegis was forged by Hephaestus and his assistants; the Cyclopes. Later Perseus gifted the head of the gorgon Medusa to Athena, who placed it on the shield.
Design[]
The shield is said to be made of gold and has a carving of Medusa's head in it's center.
