Aesculapius is the Roman god of medicine, healing, rejuvenation and physicians. He was originally a Greek god (under the name Asclepius), until the Romans adopted the deity.
In mythology[]
Aesculapius was asked to come to Rome, as an oracle said he could stop a plague that was killing all the people. Aesculapius appeared as a big snake, and went to his temple. Over there, he built a hospital to treat sick patients.
The Romans celebrated the Dies Natalis Aesculapii, a festival dedicated to the god, on January 1, 2022.
