In Indonesian Hinduism, Acintya is the Supreme God. He is mainly worshipped in Bali and is thought to be worshipped because of a trend of monism in the island. Acintya is in a way equivalent to the principle of Brahman in Indian Hinduism. He is also featured in wayang, or shadow puppet, shows. Acintya is also referred in Balinese to as "Sang Hyang Widhi Wasa", meaning "The Divine Order", and "Sang Hyang Tunggal", translated to "The Divine Oneness".
In mythology[]
Supreme god[]
Acintya is believed to be the supreme god of the universe, and all beings in existence are manifestations of him, in Hinduism called "avatars". He is emptiness and is the very place where the universe came from.
Sun god[]
Acintya is also mentioned as a sun god and is often depicted naked, with flames around him, as his sensibility is said to be far greater than to be conscious about his clothing.
