Abzu or Apsu was a primordial god of fresh water and chaos in Mesopotamian mythology. He was the consort of Tiamat, goddess of salt water. Together, they had four children; Kingu, Mummu, Lahmu and Lahamu. The latter two had numerous descendants, including Anshar and Kishar. Abzu complained to his wife that the younger gods were disturbing his peace and slumber. So he along with Mummu sought to kill the younger Gods. However, when the younger gods found out about their plan Abzu was placed in slumber then killed by the God Enki who used his body to his desires, prompting Tiamat and Kingu to take their revenge but found themselves soon defeated by Marduk.
