In one part of the ancient Celts, Abelio was the god of apple trees, especially revered in the Garonne Valley in southwestern France.
Etymology[]
The origin of the name of this god is quite uncertain, but it is possible that it could originate from the Proto-Celts , from the word Ad-belj-ō , which would literally be translated as green-growing , ie as greenish .
However, although it is logically connected with the function of this god, this should be accepted only conditionally, since the etymology of his name is being debated, and no reliable source is known.
Parallels[]
It is possible to find similarities between Abelio and the gods of other pantheons, such as Apollo and Osiris.
